It’s been almost a week since the Alabama Scale Back program began. For a single mom to lose weight, it’s very difficult. So far, I’m sticking to my plan very well…I have lost 4 lbs. to date. Off to a good start. One of my tools to success is keeping a journal log of what I eat every day, by writing it down, I’ve found accountable for the foods I eat. I don’t want to see the bad ones and I’m proud of the good ones so I think twice before grabbing that unapproved sweet treat.
For a single, working mom, it’s difficult to stay on track. Especially when you have a very active son, who does not have a problem with his weight and can eat most anything. I don’t want my son to experience weight issues as he grows older and his metabolism slows…I don’t want him to become his dad so I’m trying to set the example now and teach him to eat the right foods.
I have been experimenting with my crock pot / slow cooker to have healthy meals ready when I get home so that I’m not tempted to grab and go that fast food ( the easy option).
So far so good though it seems to be working and I really enjoy the roasted chicken and veggies or barbecue chicken and veggies. I have even made soups like chicken veggie and noodle. Easy to fix and healthy…great for a working, single mom.
The one thing I have found hard to do is find time to exercise. I still need to improve in this area; however, I do make time to play the Wii with my son. It gets me off the couch and moving (better than nothing).
I have checked into area gyms; however, the closest one and most convenient one for me doesn’t have child care after 6:00 p.m. So, please tell me what a single working mom is supposed to do. The local YMCA is a great place to go but it’s just too far for me…Since I don’t get home until 6:00 p.m. every night. That only leaves me about 2 hours to get homework, dinner, household chores and ready for the next day…not much time left for myself…can’t go to the gym after 8:00 p.m. at night and right now, it’s too cold to do much outside that late either. Any ideas?
